Tuesday 12th January: movie night at the Village meeting!

Join us on Tuesday, January 12th at 7 p.m., Mastic Beach Fire Department on Neighborhood Road for an Old-Fashioned Night at the Movies: featuring the film "Incredible Journey: The Story of West Hampton Dunes".

Anyone who wants to know why Mastic Beach should become a village must watch this show. Verne Gay wrote in his review “"Little Village That Saved Its Sand"” in Newsday, “Explore LI” Section (Thursday, June 25th, 2009):

The first two-thirds lays out how West Hampton Dunes, once a part of Southampton, nearly came to a tragic and senseless end. The last part explores the renaissance, and how a group of longtime residents fought to incorporate into a village, which had the clout to get Suffolk County, New York State, and even the feds to swing into action – finally. Many interviews here, including with residents and Mayor Gary Vegliante, who helped lead the fight to secede, former LI Regional Planning Board executive director Lee Koppelman and Assemb. and former Southampton Supervisor Fred Thiele, who observes: ‘I guess the lesson to be learned is, never give up.’
